Myofascial Release

Private Self-Treatment and Education

Learn how to use Myofascial Release (MFR) Self-Treatment techniques to experience the many benefits of caring for your fascia. Fascia is the mesh-like tissue that connects and supports our structure and absorbs forces throughout the body. Think of it like a “body suit” that connects and contains everything that is you. It is constantly responding to the various stresses we place on ourselves through our normal activity, postural habits, and sometimes injuries. As a tensegrity system, we are seeking a balance of the tensional forces throughout the different planes and joints in our body via our fascia. When our body and joints are more aligned, we reduce wear and tear and move with greater ease. Maintaining fascial health involves keeping it gliding and hydrated and addressing possible challenging areas such as trigger points and adhesions. Our fascia is also directly responsive to our nervous system, so we can use MFR to help us move out of a stress response and into a calmer place where healing is possible. We have the power to do all of this ourselves by using many tools such as massage balls and foam rollers while incorporating a variety of targeted treatment techniques along with focused breathing.

How can Private Myofascial Release benefit me?

Learning the proper way to use myofascial props and techniques and building the skills of self-observation and exploration is best done in relationship with a teacher. Sometimes we can do more harm than good with these types of tools, especially if they are too firm or if we push into pain. Whether you are recovering from an injury, wanting to enhance athletic performance, or simply seeking to feel more balanced and at ease, MFR can help. In one MFR session we can often feel an immediate benefit. With consistency of practice, longstanding issues and patterns can also improve over time.

What can I expect from a session with Joelle?

Typically we begin with an intake session where we talk about your health history and any pain or injury you might be experiencing along with your goals for our work together. The remainder of this session will be a guided practice where you learn about the MFR tools and techniques. It is recommended that we have at least 5 weekly sessions after this, so that we can check in about your response to the work and hone in on what is most beneficial for you. You will also be exploring your self-observation skills during this time and learning to listen deeply to what your body and nervous system need. As you get more comfortable with this work, you will be given some “homework” that can become an accessible daily practice. We sell all of the MFR tools at FulBeing, and Private MFR students receive a 10% discount on props purchased from us. Our goal is to get you self-sufficient with MFR, but also we know that for some, ongoing work with a teacher can help bring greater support and motivation. Therefore weekly or monthly sessions on an ongoing basis are always possible and welcome.

MFR has been a game-changer for so many of us at FulBeing and we can’t wait to share this transformative practice with you!
